David's Offering Ministries acquired a Sailboat in the spring of 2005.
The Sailboat was christened the "Laura Lou" on May 14, 2005 in loving
memory of Laura Louis Harper, 17, who went on before us as a result of a
car accident on April 26, 2005. She was one of our 'kids' for three
years. Her heart was set upon missions and reaching out to hurting
people. She was so excited about working on the Sailboat and using it
as a ministry tool. She immediately caught the vision, however, we
first thought, "What are we going to do with a Sailboat?" Then the Lord
began to show us the following:
- We have always taught the young adults things like Practical Life
Skills and Healthy Relationships. What better tool to teach focus,
survival skills, communication and teamwork!
- We have continually stressed that our Christian walk is not based on
knowing the facts about God - but, rather, is founded in the interaction
(or relationship) with our God. The Sailboat goes nowhere until the
sails fill with the power of the wind. We, likewise, founder in our
walk until the Holy Spirit empowers and directs us!
- This project helped many, who are not necessarily gifted in the
visual or musical arts to hone their skills in areas like woodworking,
detailing, sewing and even seamanship!
Our goals at David's Offering have always been to save the lost and
equip the saints for ministry. We work closely with each person to find
the giftings and talents that God has placed within each one. We, then,
plug them into the ministry area that complements their giftings. We
want each and every one to know WHO THEY ARE in Christ and WHO CHRIST IS
IN THEM! We teach them how to be real with themselves, real with others
and real with God.
Recently, however, an older gentlemen from Canada purchased the
Sailboat, thereby fulfilling his life long dream. To our knowledge the
"Laura Lou" will sail to Cancun and find her home there. We, here at
David's Offering, are thrilled that Laura's dream will reach far beyond
this little group of people in Tallahassee, Florida who loved her so
very much!
